This weekend I mowed my lawn for what I hope will be the last time this season. Before starting to mow I added some gas in the gas tank. And then I poured a quart of oil in the oil tank. The oil was my downfall.
I started the lawnmower and a cloud of smoke billowed out the side of the mower. Thinking something may not be right, but wanting to mow my lawn I practically ran around my yard filling my path with smoke. So much smoke in fact I had two neighbors in my yard when the mower shut off. One popped up over my fence asking if there was a fire and did I need a fire extinguisher.
After laughing at my blunder and assuring the over the fence neighbor there was no fire, the other neighbor checked the gas and oil levels of the mower with me. Gas was fine. Oil was way too full. And when an engine has too much oil, the engine smokes. Brand new info to me.
The lawn got mowed. I learned how to correctly check and fill the oil in the lawnmower. And I've got great neighbors to check in on me when I do dumb things.
Oh and before Thanksgiving I'll need to get a new turkey baster since the one I had removed half a quart of oil from my lawnmower. I'll save that shopping trip for next weekend's great adventures.
