And the Winner Is.....

Today was the 92nd Annual Indianapolis 500 - The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

Since I was a young girl I remember my Grandaddy watching this race. The day after the race he would cut newspaper clippings of the official race results and paste or tape them into his Indy 500 binder which now holds race statistics from over the last 35 years. He even had a betting pool - one for the adults and one for the kids - where my cousins, uncles, or even random neighbors could wager in on who would win.

I won the kid's pool once. I think I was 10 or 11 and I'd placed my $1 bet for Rick Mears to win. I had no idea who to pick, but since my Uncle Jeff had picked that driver I thought it would be the best option. Plus, I thought my uncle Jeff was the coolest guy I knew so I had to do exactly what he did. That ended up being Mears' fourth Indy 500 win, making him the third driver to ever claim that accomplishment.

I didn't watch or bet on today's race. My Grandaddy passed away 16 months ago and the tradition died with him. I did think of him. And I miss him today. And, I did take the time to read a few online articles to find out today's winner was Scott Dixon. His first.

Fortune Cookie Say.....

With today's lunch I got a fortune cookie. It said, "You need not worry about your future". It was such a relief to be given this divine inspiration from a fortune cookie. Thanks to my lunch dessert I now have no reason to worry about my current (and possibly permanent) state of singlehood or signing my new lease or finding a new sibling for Pili.

Ok, enough of the sarcasm. For a moment after reading the fortune I was hopeful. It was a relief to be given permission to let go of the worries that consume my mind. It was a brief moment though because a co-worker told me they once had a fortune that said, "You try too hard and it shows". Who writes these things anyways?

Even if my fortune wasn't really going to remove all the worries that hang in my mind, I was glad I didn't get the unfortunate fortune my co-worker had. I don't plan to start reading my horoscope or calling psychics to predict my future. But, I won't mind reading and maybe temporarily believing a fortune cookie, even if its not really real.
